Mercado de la Paz & Plaza de Colón

I was checking out the Mercado de la Paz this morning and couldn't remember if I had shown you all what a market looks like yet.  So, I started snapping some pictures.

cheese!

Then I explored the neighborhood a little before ending up at Plaza de Colón, which is named in honor of Christopher Columbus.  Apparently, his name in Spanish is Cristóbal Colón.  Who knew?  The national library is south of here as is the archeology museum.

The huge Spanish flag caught my eye.

Sadly, the gardens were being renovated.

Oh I so miss markets like that. There was one like that in Florence when I was there for four months, but nothing like that in Verona anymore. It's so sad.

I got to do research in the National Library. It was very glorious for an academic nerd like me! I have also been to that market. Don't you love it? Have you been brave enough to order anything? I am glad you are enjoying the views in Madrid.

It was a great market! I only bought a pastry for breakfast. I wasn't headed home yet, so I didn't want to have to carry much :)

We typically do our shopping at a smaller market that is closer to our apartment.
